To celebrate fall's leaf change and
Banner Elk's thirty year old fall tradition, The Woolly Worm festival, John and Susan
Turchin are hosting the Woolly Music Fest at the Heart Rock Amphitheatre,
North Carolina's equal to Colorado's Red Rocks, at The Lodges of Eagles Nest on
Saturday, October 21, 2006 from noon until 9:00 PM.
This celebration is the second in a series of
musical events to raise funds for a new Fire
Engine for the Banner Elk Volunteer Fire Department, to continue to fund a scholarship
established in the name of four fire fighters who lost their lives when their boat capsized
in a boating accident earlier this year, to raise funds for the Beech Mountain and Fall Creek
Volunteer Fire Departments, and to raise funds for several other local charities.
The Woolly Music Fest benefit will feature the John Cowan Band, Bluegrass. Newgrass.
Rock N' Rollgrass, country, rock-and-roll, Lonesome River Band, country, Laura Blackley
and the Love Handles, a pleasant blend of blue grass and country, Lance Mills & The Hillbilly
Angels, and The Carburetors, as well as several other local bands. The
event, co-sponsored by The Great Train Robbery, The Blackboard Restaurant, and other
local businesses, is promoting a day of music, family, and fun. Activities planned include
a pumpkin carving contest, three legged races, tug-o-war, and an ultimate treasure hunt.
Tickets prices are $10 for adults, $5 for kids (12 and under) and free for children under 5.
Tickets will be on sale with the proceeds going directly to the local charities. Tickets can
be purchased in advance at the Great Train Robbery or at the Woolly Worm Festival.
The Woolly Music Fest is part of a series of weekly barbeques John and Susan
Turchin have been hosting at The Lodges of Eagles Nest every Saturday throughout the
summer. The event is open to the public and all are encouraged to bring family and
friends to explore the charming town of Banner Elk, attend the 29th annual Woolly Worm
Festival, and to enjoy the majestic beauty of The Lodges at Eagles Nest where the
mountains will come alive with live music, featured artists, and lots of fall surprises and fun.
